Here on the Site History/Info page, we'll give you lots of behind the scenes information about Ani-Gamers.

Site History

Officially beginning updates on May 29, 2004, Anime Paradise was a basic anime news and information web site. After creating two minor anime fansites a few years prior, Evan Minto (Vampt Vo), then in middle school, decided to create his first ever "large-scale" site, as inspired by LELOLA.net. For over 2 years, Anime Paradise provided readers with (admittedly rare) news and information like summaries and character biographies. This content remains today, though it is no longer the web site's primary focus.

After beginning occasional anime and video game reviews in 2005 and starting to design a better layout, Evan officially announced the new version of the site on the site's second birthday in 2006. That summer, a drastic aesthetic change was wrought, as Evan created "Ani-Gamers version 1.0," representing a new name and vision for the fledgling site. The name change came about because of the old name's similarity with the URL of a hentai website, clashing with AP's "Hentai Free" message. Ani-Gamers was now a web site primarily focused on news and reviews, and its layout was significantly updated with a slightly more "Web 2.0" look. Most importantly, video games were elevated to the same importance as anime, in an attempt to bring in another demographic of geek culture.

Since then, various changes have been made to the layout, including the inclusion of expandable text in news, menus, and reviews. (This was eventually changed as it was found to do more harm than good) On the third birthday of the site (first of the newly designed one), Evan created a Blogger-based news blog, where all future news would be posted. Not long after, AG's first column--Vampt Vo's Dojo Day--was created, and it quickly became one of the site's more popular features. The Forums have always been an important part of AG's community-oriented strategy, and after a few changes, the web site has settled on an InvisionFree model.

On September 28, 2007, a new saga of the Ani-Gamers history began. In a blog post, Evan announced Project uWrite, a system that would allow users to directly submit articles to be posted on Ani-Gamers alongside official reviews and news stories. Since the announcement, there have only been a handful of uWrite submissions, but the number is always growing.

On March 27, 2008, after a lot of hard work, Evan updated Ani-Gamers to version 2.0, which included a new, lighter, cleaner layout and the eye-controller logo now synonymous with our site. From there on, staff registrations increased incredibly, and therefore, the volume of content being published to Ani-Gamers also soared.

Ani-Gamers has not been a tremendous success by any stretch of the imagination. We started as a small site, and are such today as well. However, we here at Ani-Gamers hope that our dedication and love for all things nerd will keep this humble site growing for many years to come. Thank you very much for visiting!

Site Info
  • The site's basic framework was created using Adobe GoLive, but updates have recently been made in Adobe Dreamweaver. Also, we use the MS11 control panel to build and update the HTML when we don't have access to HTML editors.
  • All of the images (that we changed) were edited or created in Adobe Photoshop (various versions).
  • Vampt Vo uses a Mac, while most everyone else uses Windows PCs.
  • The Blog and Forums were created by Vampt Vo. The former runs on Blogger software, while the latter was created using the InvisionFree presets.
