Who Are We?
Ani-Gamers is an all-purpose anime and video game fansite.
Officially opened to the world on May 29, 2004 as Anime Paradise, Ani-Gamers has grown to be a large, community-based anime and video game fansite.
Staffed by a dedicated group of anime and game fans (we call them otaku), the site brings readers news, reviews, information, and media from the deeply intertwined worlds of anime and video games.
Ani-Gamers even allows for users to post any type of article, from a review to a news story, directly onto Ani-Gamers, using our revolutionary Project uWrite.
Through projects like uWrite and our forums, we always try to keep our staff on an equal ground with our fans.
We treat our readers as writers who are just as important as our own staffed writers.
What About Me?
Our website also forms the center of a small network of sites created or frequented by our staff and members, such as Nintendo HQ, V-squared Studios, and Fanmedia Sanctuary.
We offer a very open and inviting linking and affiliation program that accepts both small and large sites.
Ani-Gamers always welcomes new writers looking for a chance to get practical experience and "internet fame", who need only apply.
Information on our current staff can be found here.
Of course, our most important tool for the casual user is our Forums, with a growing community of avid otaku and gamers.
And if you just want to help promote us a bit, head on over to our linking/affiliation page to find small link buttons you can include in your signatures on other sites.
Anime? Video Games?
Some people might be wondering what all of these things we're talking about are. (see: concerned parents)
Well, let's begin then!
Anime: Anime is a style of animation originated in Japan.
It is usually associated by those unfamiliar with the style with big eyes, spiky hair, and big heads.
However, it is often only noticeable by its commonly detailed style, and the fact that it is often spoken in Japanese with English subtitles.
Anime is also commonly associated with hentai, or ecchi, a form of anime named after the word hentai, which means pervert in Japanese.
There is a large amount of hentai in the world of anime, but like porn in the American market, it is firmly separated from other forms of anime, and is looked down upon by many anime fans.
Ani-Gamers is proudly Hentai Free, meaning that while we may include shows with excessive violence or mild innapropriate themes, we will never include any images or information on Hentai or Ecchi shows.
Another misconception is that anime is either too kiddy or too violent.
This is not the case.
There are many children's anime, and also a lot of mature ones, but they do not overwhelm the medium.
In fact, many of the most popular shows are directed at teenagers, and many of the mature ones use their violence to achieve a deeper meaning in the title.
Manga: Manga is easily explained after that lengthy anime explanation.
Manga is simply the comicbook form of anime, and the medium that usually creates the stories anime are based on.
They are also known for long, arching plotlines that extend over many volumes.
Video Games: Video games are a much more American phenomenon than anime/manga, though they are still distinctly Japanese.
Video games are defined by Ani-Gamers as any game which uses an electronic processor of some sort and a screen to display the information for said game.
This can range from text-based computer games to casual computer games like Minesweeper to full-3D console games.
While there are many violent video games, there are also quite a few child-friendly games, and they are separated by a harsh ratings system called ESRB.
There have been many attempts to shut down violent video game creation, but they have never succeeded due to the fact that they fall under freedom of speech, and the ESRB protects children from these games.
Ani-Gamers covers all sorts of video games, but will usually focus on legitimate games in the E-M range. (i.e. not many 3+ or Adults Only, and not many obviously cheap and marketing-only games, such as Bratz or Barbie)
