Metal Gear Solid is the life's work of talented Japanese developer Hideo Kojima. Under the auspices of Konami's studios, Kojima and his team have created a massive franchise that encompasses four core console games and numerous console and handheld spinoffs. These stories generally follow the super-soldier codenamed "Solid Snake" as he fights to stop the creation and activation of nuclear missile-launching mechs called "Metal Gears." The latest title in the franchise is the hugely-hyped and critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which released this June on the Playstation 3.
