Main Characters
Loren Kiel
Position: Chairman, Instrumentality of Man Comitee, SEELE
Chairman of SEELE and the one who wants to fulfill the Human Instrumantality Project. Not much is known about him, but he's the top man and the boss of Gendo. He is the one who commands the Eva Series to attack NERV Headquarters.
Gendo Ikari
Position: Supreme Commander, NERV
Shinji's father and the hero and villan in Evangelion. He is a villan because some say he killed his wife in an Eva test, but it was most likely Naoko Akagi. He also abandoned his son after his wife's death. He is also a hero, because without his sacrifices and orders, Tokyo-3 would have been destroyed. He died during 3rd Impact.
Kouzou Fuyutski
Position: NERV Assistant Commander
He doesn't play a big role in Evangelion. He is always by Gendo Ikari's side but he doesn't always agree with his decisions. He agrees with his own opinions very strongly. He dies during 3rd Impact.
Misato Katsuragi
Position: Operations Chief, NERV
The only survivor of the Katsuragi Expedition in Antarctica during the 2nd Impact. When she returned home from the expedition as a little girl, she did not speak beacause she was so emotionally scarred. She began to speak and feel more friendlier in College where she met two friends Ritsuko Akagi and Kaji Ryouji. She often skipped class to be with Kaji all day. She is also Shinji and Asuka's guardian. She died trying to protect Shinji. She was shot in the arm, to weak to go on, she kissed him to make him immobilized and pushed him into the elevator. She died of bleeding severely. Her corpse also blew up in the explosion that took half of NERV Headquaters with it.
Ritsuko Akagi
Position: Chief Scientist, NERV
The daughter of Naoko Akagi. She hid secrets away from NERV personel but reveled them to Misato and Shinji towards the end of Evangelion. She was believed to have "affairs" with Gendo and Kaji. She was killed by Gendo who shot her in the head after he told her the truth about her mother.
Kaji Ryouji
Position: NERV Special Agent
He was a spy for NERV and the japanese government. He investigated activities between NERV and SEELE. He went to far and was killed when NERV figured out what he was doing. He sent off his information he got to Mistao who secreteley completes his work.
Rei Ayanami
Position: Eva Pilot, NERV/Middle School Student
A very calm and serene 14 year old girl. She listens to Comander Ikari's commands even if it may cause her fatal injuries or even death. Near the end of Evangelion, we figure out Rei was a clone from Lilith, the 2nd angel. In the movies, she refuses to merge with Lilith to create the 3rd Impact, so she merges with herself creating a new huge angel meant to wipe out humanity for the Instrumentality Project. Giving Shinji a choice, she let him decide to be destroyed and he refused, so she wipes out everyone else except for Asuka, because she was shielded by her angel, and Shinji.
Asuka Langley Sohryu
Position: Eva Pilot, NERV/ Middle School Student
Basically, the opposite of Rei and the most tortured and misunderstood girl in Evangelion. Asuka is loud, abnoxious, and would do anything to win or be the best. She often gets angry at Shinji when he finishes a mission and not her. Near the end of Evangelion, she realizes she not the best eva pilot and has more trouble coping with her mother's suicidal death so her synch ratio begins to drop to a point where she is put into a coma and is unable to pilot an eva ever again. Although, in the movie when they needed another pilot to fend off the eva-series, they find Asuka breathing correctly again and out of her coma, so they send her to destroy them. The Lance of Longinus penetrated her A.T. Field leaving her defenceless to fight off the eva- series which now regenerated and starting to rip Eva Unit-02 to shreds, leaving a horrible ending to a misunderstood girl's life. During the Instumentality Project she was reborn and when all humans were wiped out, except for Shinji who refused it as an independent, she was protected by her beat-up eva leaving the two of them to restart the human race again, like Adam and Eve. After the huge, intense fight scene between Asuka and the Eva Series, many people believed Asuka has Bipolar syndrome. They think this because she literally goes from suicidal depression to a happy, confident person and then back to suicidal.
Shinji Ikari
Position: Eva Pilot, NERV/Middle School Student
Shinji is a normal 14 year old boy trying to deal with what everyone around his age is dealing with. He is normally quiet, seeming like the "good boy" while inside he seems broken and destroyed. He trys to cover up those feelings, but at the end of evangelion he can no longer control them and becomes temperarily paralyzed by his emotions. He is left alone to overcome this emotional lonliness. After a while he is able to fight his emotions and he comes back out stronger fighting for love (Asuka's Death), friendship (Rei's and Kaworu's Death), those he has hurt (Toji), and the one who watch over him (Misato's death). He refuses to be wiped off the face of humanity during the Instrumentality Project leaving him along with Asuka to rebuild the human race more peacefully.
Toji Suzuhara
Position: Eva Pilot, NERV/Middle School Student
Toji is more of the bully and the "bad boy" of his school. He doesn't realizes Hikari, the school representative, has a crush on him because he's too busy trying to get woman he can't get, Misato for example. He beats up Shinji because his Eva made his sister go into the hospitol during the first attack. They later become friends. Not even half-way through the series, Toji becomes the 4th Child and the pilot of Unit-03 only if his sister gets transferred into the NERV hospitol, which she does. The day they do the tests on the angel, Unit- 03 gets infected by the 13th angel, the angel of blood. That is the reason this angel had such a bloody death while it was ripped apart by Unit- 01 serverely harming Toji and making him lose a leg and an arm.
Kaworu Nagisa
Position: Eva Pilot, NERV
When Asuka became comatosed, NERV frantically searched for a 5th child to replace her. SEELE sent over Kaworu Nagisa, the 17th angel. He quickley has a friendship with Shinji. Kaworu was the angel of free will so he could choose what form to take either human or angel. He loved everyone and everything. He was meant to merge with Adam, but when he went to Central Dogma to merge with Adam, he found it was Lilith instead of Adam. He ordered Shinji to kill him, Shinji hesitates at first on killing his only friend still alive, be he squeezes his boday and the last we see of Kaworu is his head floating in a lake of LCL.
Yui Ikari
Position: Evangelion Researcher, Gehirn
The mother of Shinji and wife of Gendo. She researched about Evas during the peginning of Project: Evangelion. She was the test pilot of Unit-01, but something went wrong and the Eva absorbed her. Her soul now rests within Evangelion Unit-01. Some say Naoko Akagi made it so the eva would absorb her, so she could be with Gendo without his wife getting in the way.
Naoko Akagi
Position: MAGI System Creater, Gehirn
Mother of Ritsuko, MAGI System creator, and worked on the organization known as GEHIRN. She was the only member of GEHIRN that was not transferred to NERV organization. She is believed to set up the Unit-01 system so it would absorb Yui Ikari. When Gendo brought Rei (claiming it was a friend of his' dauter and he was watching her) Naoko knew she was very similar to Yui. One day, Rei got lost, calling Naoko an old bag and how Gendo calls her that all the time behind her back. Naoko becomes furious and strangles Rei, killing her. Naoko couldn't stand that she killed someone with her bare hands and how Gendo didn't love her, so she commited suicide. Her soul was split when she died, so her soul resides in unit-00 and the MAGI computer.
Kyoko Zeppelin Sohryu
Position: Evangelion Researcher, Gehirn
Mother of Asuka and researcher of evas in Germany. She was so into her work, that she never had time for Asuka. During an evangelion test she tried to synchronize with Eva Unit-02 but something went wrong and she went crazy. She kept a doll with red hair and talked to it, saying it was her daughter. She would talk to it all the time since she would never have time for the real Asuka since she was so into her work. Whenever Asuka would visit her mother would completely ignore her saying that the real Asuka was crazy and only would laugh at her and make fun of her. She wanted Asuka (the doll) to die with her, and when Asuka came home to tell her mother that she had been excepted to pilot eva, she found the doll along with her dead mothers body hanging from the cieling. This picture still haunts Asuka's mind: Her mother hanging from the cieling, smiling with the doll next to her. When she died they took her body and soul and absorbed it into Eva-Unit 02.
Minor Characters
Shigeru Aoba
Position: NERV/Computer Assistant
He plays the guitar and knows a lot about computers. He died during 3rd Impact.
Makoto Hyuga
Position: NERV/Assistant Strategist
He is a minor character in Evangelion. He has a crush on Misato and shows it by doing her laundry for her. He died during 3rd Impact.
Maya Ibuki
Position: NERV/Technical Assistant
She is a minor character in Evangelion. She is a lesbian and is in love with Ritsuko Akagi. She looks up to her alot. She usually gets grossed out and looks away when something violent or vile happens. She died during 3rd Impact.
Kensuke Aida
Position: Middle School Student
A classmate of Shinji, Asuka, and Rei. He is Shinji's and Toji's best friend aand is usually always found around them. He is really into battles and wars. He died during 3rd Impact.
Hikari Horaki
Position: Middle School Student
Another classmate of Shinji, Asuka, and Rei. SHe was Asuka's best friend and the class representative. She has a crush on Toji and makes him lunch everyday. After Asuka can not become a pilot anymore, and before she goes into a coma, she runs away and lives with Hikari until NERV finds her and takes her away. Hikari died during 3rd Impact.
Pen-Pen
Position: Misato's Pet Penguin
Penœ, also known as Pen-Pen. He was originally suposed to be killed because of a scientific experiment gone wrong, but Misato saved him. He lives in the freezer of Misato's secong fridge.
